Things to do...

While it is hard to tear yourself away from their lovely surroundings, our holiday cottages are ideally located to step back in time and visit the ancient and beautiful City of York whose architecture of yesteryear can be enjoyed by visiting the magnificent York Minster with its stunning stained glass and world famous gothic features. York Racecourse holds regular meetings for a great day out.

Coastal Whitby is a popular day out, the village that inspired Bram Stoker to write his world famous book, Dracula. Whitby's 199 steps are an extraordinary attraction in Whitby. They attract visitors from all over the world - visitors who make the phenomenally tiring trek from bottom to top. Why not have lunch or end your day at the Magpie Café famed for its fresh fish cuisine.

Hull, whose tourist attractions include the historic Old Town and Museum Quarter, the Marina and The Deep.

Near by Beverley is home to yet another magnificent Minster for those with a real hunger for culture, for those wanting a little more action then Beverley Racecourse can provide a good day out. Beverley is known in the modern day for hosting various music festivals throughout the year and food festivals.

Castle Howard - featured in the TV version of Brideshead Revisited - and the romantic, ghostly ruins of Rievaulx Abbey and Fountains Abbey are a pleasant and scenic short drive away.

Pickering is close by where you can board the famous North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway to journey over the 'Heartbeat' moorlands towards Whitby. For those interested in modern history, the Second World War is remembered at Eden Camp, a museum based on civilian life during the conflict, 17 miles away from your holiday home and is situated close to the picturesque village of Thornton le Dale, on the outskirts of the stunning Yorkshire Moors and Dalby Forest. The forest features miles of purpose built mountain bike trails and a hugely popular Go Ape aerial assault course!

Closer to home is Pocklington Arts Centre, which has a 200-seat auditorium and 70-seat studio/exhibition space, it provides film screenings, live music, theatre performances, comedy clubs, and art exhibitions. If you want to immerse yourself in flora and fauna then Burnby Hall Gardens, close to the centre of Pocklington, are home to a National Collection of Hardy Water Lilies - the biggest such collection to be found in a natural setting in Europe.

A local gliding club offers starter lessons and the nearby Lakeland Park offers watersports and fly and coarse fishing, Allerthorpe Park Golf Club in the village and Percy Golf Club just outside Pocklington 3miles approx. are open to visiting golfers. All within 2 miles of the Lodges as well as great pubs, restaurants and shops in nearby Pocklington.
